Thousands take stride at the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Johannesburg

The City of Johannesburg hosted the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge at Wanderers Sports Club on Thursday, 12 March 2026. The event brought together 265 companies and more than 14,500 participants from a wide range of industries to celebrate employee wellness, camaraderie and the spirit of teamwork.

The challenge is the world’s largest corporate running series, where teams of colleagues – regardless of fitness level – walk, jog or run a 5.6km course. The event has become a global tradition that encourages workplace connection while also supporting local communities.

MMC for Community Development, Cllr Thapelo Amad, praised the success of the event and the strong participation from companies across the city.

“It gives me great pleasure to be part of the City’s contribution to celebrating the essence of teamwork and togetherness, as demonstrated by participants and their respective companies. The JP Morgan Corporate Challenge continues to grow every year, proving that the spirit of Ubuntu can be expressed through health, fitness and wellness initiatives,” he said.

Following the run, participants gathered with their colleagues at the Wanderers Club to celebrate the occasion, enjoying a flexible post-race package that included food, refreshments and space to relax and socialise.

The event also supports the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa, which harnesses the power of sport to address social challenges and drive meaningful change. Through the funding, development and implementation of impactful programmes, Laureus uses sport as a tool to promote equality, expand access and create opportunities for young people and communities across South Africa.

The Corporate Challenge continues to serve as an important platform for promoting wellness in the workplace, encouraging companies to create environments where physical activity, teamwork and social connection are valued and celebrated.

George Kusche from Pepkor Lifestyle won the men’s section in 16: 55 and Mari Rabie from Rand Merchant Bank won in 21:40 in the ladies section.
