City of Joburg Property Company opens criminal cases following fraudulent transfer of City-owned properties
The City of Joburg Property Company has discovered several City-owned properties that were fraudulently transferred to other individuals without their knowledge or consent.
The case was first identified by the City of Joburg’s GIS Department where they track and verify all properties that are transferred so that they can update the City’s billing system to bill the correct property owners. The GIS Department then assisted the JPC by extracting transfers that occurred on the properties that are owned by the City, which are then analysed internally to check the legitimacy of the transfers.
PIKITUP employees are not on strike
The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, Cllr Jack Sekwaila, wants to clarify that Pikitup employees are not on strike. We are concerned about the false allegations circulating on various social media platforms, especially TikTok, claiming that Pikitup employees are on strike.
A video posted on TikTok by Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille falsely claims that Pikitup employees are on strike. This statement is misleading and false. We urge residents to ignore the content of that video.

Executive Mayor Councillor Dada Morero leads grand opening of Joburg Open 2026
The City of Johannesburg is honoured to announce the commencement of the Joburg Open, which officially teed off this morning and will continue through Sunday. This prestigious tournament, broadcast to over 200 cities around the globe, further cements Johannesburg’s reputation as a premier international sporting destination—one where aspirations are nurtured, and dreams are realised. In keeping with tradition, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Councillor Dada Morero, is typically entrusted with performing the ceremonial tee-off to mark the official opening of this esteemed tournament.
However, in a profound departure from custom, the Mayor elected to confer this honour upon a young boy whose remarkable journey embodies the very essence and spirit of Johannesburg. This morning, ten-year-old Tshiamo “Tshitshi” Makamedi from Alexandra took to the tee—not merely as a promising young golfer, but as a beacon of hope, perseverance, and the boundless potential that resides within the diverse communities of our city. Remarkably, it was only two and a half years ago that Tshitshi first picked up a golf club. Since then, he has achieved extraordinary success, earning medals at international junior tournaments and distinguishing himself as one of South Africa’s most promising young athletes.
