JDA puts spotlight on implemented clinics on World Health Day

World Health Day is celebrated annually on 7 April, and each year draws attention to a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world.

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) is celebrating 21 years of implementing projects, including much-need clinics, for the City of Johannesburg.

“The JDA has a 21-year track record of successfully implementing capital projects on behalf of the City of Johannesburg. Over the years, the JDA has implemented more than 1000 projects, including clinics on behalf of the City of Johannesburg’s Health Department,” says Sherylee Moonsamy, the JDA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer.

In celebrating World Health Day, the JDA brings the spotlight on three clinics recently completed by the JDA: Florida, Bophelong and Claremont.

Florida Clinic opens its doors

In addressing common diseases like tuberculosis, HIV and other chronic diseases, the JDA partnered with the Johannesburg Health Department to spearhead the revitalisation of the Florida Clinic into modern healthcare, designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the local community effectively and efficiently.

The clinic opened its doors for the public on Tuesday, 01 March, operation hours from 07:00-16:00, Monday to Friday. Florida Clinic has 18 consulting rooms, an emergency and stabilisation unit, a mother and child section, counselling rooms, a group room for ARV Treatment and TB therapy, a testing facility and antenatal care are what the community of Florida and its surroundings need. A pharmacy, social work counselling rooms and ablution facilities are in the same building.

The green elements include the photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and an integrated battery generator, panels to support the air conditioning, ventilation and air filtering, lighting, and water pumping essential for hygiene.

The project created opportunities in Roodepoort – jobs for construction workers, skilled and semi-skilled workers, and the appointment of 12 SMMEs to assist in completing the project.

Bophelong Clinic accommodates higher volumes

To fight injuries and illness, health and safety in Doornkop, the City saw a need for a day-to-day health services in Doornkop.

JDA undertook the construction the clinic to upgrade into a world-class facility capable of accommodating large numbers of patients and providing a wide range of health and welfare services for Doornkop residents and surroundings on a broader scale.

Bophelong Clinic is an eco-friendly building with solar panels to minimise operational costs and carbon footprint with several CCTV cameras, limited access control at the gate to ensure patients safety, and light-emitting diode energy-saving lighting for visibility.

Bophelong Clinic has 200 seats in the waiting area, with public ablutions; a children’s play area with a view of food gardens; a dispensary, and natural light from the roof lights and windows.

The clinic is wheelchair-friendly and has a railing supported by a baluster for the elderly and people with disabilities to access the building and opens between 08:00 and 16:00, Monday to Friday.

Claremont Clinic bring services closer to the people

JDA undertook the upgrade of Claremont Clinic in Randburg to provide improved healthcare service to encapsulate the vision of the City to bring services close to the residents of Johannesburg.

Opened on 16 September 2021, the healthcare facility caters for more than over 10 000 residents in the Clermont area and its surroundings – Montclare, Newlands, Delarey and Whiteridge; located on the corner of Princess Road and Kent Street, was built in line with the Ideal Clinics Standards.
