City of Johannesburg Hosts Virtual Debt Relief Phase 4 Engagements Across All Regions
The City of Johannesburg will host its largest-ever online public engagement sessions for the Debt Relief Programme – Phase 4 across all seven regions of the City.
These virtual engagements form part of the City’s ongoing commitment to provide meaningful financial relief to residents and businesses, while promoting the regularisation of municipal accounts in a fair, transparent and structured manner.
One year later: Joburg’s High-impact Service Delivery Programme expands from inner city to all seven regions
The City of Johannesburg today marks one year since Executive Mayor, Cllr Dada Morero, launched the High-Impact Service Delivery Programme — a decisive intervention aimed at restoring order, accelerating service delivery, and reclaiming the inner city for residents, businesses, and investors. The programme remains a core priority of the current administration as it works to stabilise communities, strengthen governance, and rebuild confidence in Johannesburg.
Launched under the theme “Reimagining Joburg through the Eyes of Residents,” the programme signalled a shift from fragmented responses to a coordinated, results-driven approach to urban management. Closely aligned with the City’s Inner-City Revitalisation Programme, the initiative brings together multidisciplinary teams from municipal departments and entities to address long-standing service-delivery challenges in the inner city.
City of Johannesburg concerned about planned march by Inner-City traders
The City of Johannesburg has noted with concern a planned march by informal traders operating in the inner city, particularly within the City Improvement District. This follows a letter from certain trader representatives alleging harassment by officials and calling for the re-marking of trading bays, the issuance of permits to compliant traders, and for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) to stop removing traders who assert that they are operating legally.
The City has assessed these claims and maintains that the consistent enforcement of by-laws throughout the inner city has been both necessary and appropriate to restore order, cleanliness, safety, and long-term economic stability. In recent months, these efforts have led to measurable improvements, despite attempts by certain external parties to sow confusion and division among traders for their own interests.

The City of Johannesburg urges media owners and outdoor advertising agencies not to support companies operating without proper approval, as the City intensifies its efforts to clamp down on illegal outdoor advertising across Johannesburg.
On Tuesday, 17 February 2026, the City conducted a large-scale enforcement operation starting at Bryanston Shopping Centre and proceeding along Winnie Mandela Drive toward Sandton, where as many as 10 illegal billboards were identified, with several taken down.
The City of Johannesburg advances plans for the Archbishop Desmond Tutu-precinct
The City of Johannesburg’s Transport Department, through the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), is progressing with the development of a Precinct Plan for the establishment of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Precinct and its surrounding areas.
This 12-month initiative forms part of the City’s Inner-City Urban Regeneration Programme. It aims to transform a key section of the inner city into a more accessible, inclusive, and vibrant urban environment.
City intensifies operation against problem properties in revenue enhancement drive
The City today intensified its multi-departmental operation aimed at addressing problem properties and enforcing compliance as part of its ongoing revenue enhancement drive. The coordinated operation commenced this morning at 26 High Street, Bramley, and later proceeded to 54 Grenville Avenue, next to Weinberg.
The operation brought together several City entities, including the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), Group Forensic and Investigation Services (GFIS), Corporate Revenue Management Unit (CRUM), the Development Planning Department, City Power, and Joburg Water.
Update: Overall Johannesburg Water System
The overall Johannesburg Water systems are gradually recovering. The bulk supplier continues to pump at full capacity, but the strategic reservoir remains low which slows down recovery of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) reservoirs and towers. This prompts Johannesburg Water to implement daily interventions in respective systems and area to manage supply.
The systems under constraints are reducing and currently those experiencing challenges are the Commando, Diepsloot, Central and Soweto systems. Those systems which have improved and or are improving are under close observation by the Entity.
