Traffic Advisory: Temporary Closure of M1 Smit Street Interchange Off-Ramps
Motorists are advised of a scheduled temporary closure affecting the M1 Smit Street Interchange off-ramps (northbound and southbound) from Saturday, 7 March 2026 to Monday 9 March 2026 to allow the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to undertake essential road testing and investigations.
Executive Mayor conducts oversight visit following Ormonde building collapse
Earlier today, the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Dada Morero, accompanied by Members of the Mayoral Committee, visited the site of the tragic building collapse at Amethyst Business Park in Ormonde.
This unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of nine lives, while three individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care in the hospital. During the oversight visit, the Mayor, Mayoral Committee Members, the City Manager, and senior officials received confirmation that all twelve individuals believed to have been inside the building at the time of the collapse have now been accounted for.

The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Dada Morero, will tomorrow morning lead a delegation of Members of the Mayoral Committee to visit the site of the devastating building collapse in Ormonde. This heart-wrenching tragedy, which took place at Amethyst Business Park, has claimed six lives, with three individuals still unaccounted for. The City stands with all those affected by this immense loss.
The Mayor, together with the entire City of Johannesburg leadership, extends the City’s deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who have lost their lives. We share in your grief during this profoundly difficult time and stand in solidarity with you. The City remains fully committed to working with all authorities to determine the cause of the collapse and to ensure that support is provided to every affected family.
City’s Midrand Customer Service Centre Relocates to New Address
The City of Johannesburg wishes to inform residents and stakeholders that the Midrand Customer Service Centre will close on 27 February 2026 at its current location as the Centre relocates to new premises.
The Centre is moving from No. 300, 15th Road, Randjespark, Midrand to No. 230, 15th Road, Randjespark, Midrand.
City of Johannesburg Clarifies Position on Metro Centre Closure and Newtown Lease Arrangements
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through the Joburg Property Company (JPC), wishes to correct misleading public narratives regarding the closure of the Metro Centre and the temporary leasing of office accommodation in Newtown.
Recent reports suggesting that the City has incurred “billions in losses” are inaccurate and do not reflect the factual position, the regulatory context, or the responsible decisions taken to safeguard employees, residents, and public resources.
Johannesburg Proud Host of Meetings Africa’s 20th Edition
Johannesburg, Africa’s powerhouse city and global hub, has played proud host to the 20th edition of the Meetings Africa trade exhibition from 23 – 25 February 2026 at the Sandton Convention Centre. Owned by South African Tourism and delivered in partnership with the South Africa National Convention Bureau (SANCB), Johannesburg Convention Bureau (an initiative of Joburg Tourism) and the Sandton Convention Centre, this milestone event marks two decades of connecting Africa’s business events industry to the world.
Meetings Africa has grown into the continent’s leading trade show for the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector. The 20th edition will bring together global buyers, exhibitors and thought leaders, showcasing Africa’s capacity to host world-class events while fostering collaboration and innovation. The event will open with the Business Opportunity Networking Day (BONDay) on 23 February, followed by two days of exhibitions, networking and knowledge-sharing.
Revamp of Courtyard at Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial
The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the City of Johannesburg, will soon begin upgrading the courtyard exhibition at the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum in Orlando West. The project aims to uphold the dignity of this internationally recognised heritage site while enhancing the overall visitor experience.
The planned revamp focuses on refreshing and upgrading the courtyard to create a respectful, accessible, and safe space for visitors, learners, and families who come to reflect and remember.
City of Johannesburg and Breathe Cities announce February 2026 Clean Air Youth Conference and Convening
The City of Johannesburg in partnership with Breathe Cities, Process, Energy and Environmental Technology Station (UJ PEETS) and key partners, will host a series of clean air engagements in Johannesburg in February 2026. These engagements are designed to reinforce evidence-based air quality management and fast-track clean air action throughout the city. They are part of the Breathe Cities efforts in Johannesburg—a city-wide program focused on improving air quality and protecting public health.
Update: Overall Johannesburg Water System
Overall, Johannesburg Water’s systems have improved slightly compared toSundaymorning. Most systems are supplying fairly to normally, while others are constrainedand critically low. The bulk supplier continues to pump at full capacity, althoughthestrategic reservoirs are recovering with marked improvement. As a result, theCityof Johannesburg reservoirs and towers are also recovering at a gradual pace.
The systems currently experiencing challenges are the Commando, Midrand, andSoweto systems.
